If you’ve ever been to a party, you’ve probably played a party game at some point.

If you’ve been to a party in the past ten years, there’s a good chance you’ve played Cards Against Humanity or something similar.

Earlier this month, a popular play and entertainment company announced that it is bringing a popular computer and mobile game into the board game world.

On July 14, Hasbro revealed a collaboration with New York Times Games to create Wordle: The Party Game.

In each round, a host-selected player writes down a secret word that the other players must guess within six tries.

All players in the game compete against each other.

The fewer guesses that a player needs, the lower their score.

The player with the fewest points at the end of the game wins.

The game features four play styles, including classic, fast, timed, and teams.

Hasbro says people can play the game repeatedly with the included dry-erase Wordle boards and markers.

“Since Wordle burst onto the scene, it’s undoubtedly been a staple in social and pop culture vocabulary,” says Hasbro SVP Adam Biehl. “We’re beyond thrilled to work with New York Times Games to bring our gaming worlds together and extend Wordle in new ways.”

Hasbro says Wordle’s popularity exploded after Josh Wardle launched it in October 2021, quickly becoming a daily obsession for many.

The Times Company acquired Wordle in early 2022.

Hasbro calls Wordle a phenomenon that has woven itself into cultural conversation and captures people’s collective imagination.

New York Times Head of Games Jonathan Knight says Wordle brought people together, which makes it special.

“With each daily puzzle, we’re connected with friends and family through social play,” says Knight. “At New York Times Games, we’re focused on quality crafted puzzles that everyone can experience together, which is why we’re so excited to team up with Hasbro to bring a fresh new format to the global sensation of Wordle.”

Hasbro is taking pre-orders for Wordle: The Party Game, which officially launches on October 1, 2022.
