California cannabis company Kanha is bringing its edibles to Thailand through a new semi-exclusive global partnership.

Recently, Kanha’s parent company Sunderstorm announced a collaboration with Bangkok-based THCG Group Ltd.

THCG is a Thai medical cannabis license holder with cultivation, distribution, and retail operations.

The two companies announced the partnership at the Asia International Hemp Expo 2022 on November 30 in Bangkok.

Sunderstorm says it will use Geocann’s VESIsorb delivery technology to manufacture and launch fast-acting edibles with high bioavailability in Thailand.

The company says it will also export products to other international markets.

Kanha products will be the first U.S.-made THC edibles in Thailand.

THCG Managing Director Thanarat Jitpayap says the company partnered with Kanha because of its reputation and quality track record.

“We chose to collaborate with Kanha because it is a trusted, well-known, and innovative U.S. hemp and cannabis brand that offers science-backed, superior-quality products with the accurate dosing required by medical patients,” says Jitpayap. “Through this partnership, we are looking forward to expanding and developing our business as a central hub of production in Asia; and to exporting products to the world market.”

The partnership is possible because the Thai Food and Drug Administration removed cannabis from its Category 5 Narcotics List in July.

The removal fully legalized cannabis possession, cultivation, distribution, consumption, sales, imports, and exports.

Sunderstorm says Thailand will likely become a sizable medicinal and adult-use cannabis market.

The country is home to 70 million citizens and 40 million tourists annually.

University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce expects Thailand’s hemp and cannabis markets to grow 15 percent annually.

The Chamber’s estimates put Thailand’s hemp and cannabis market at $1.5 billion (USD) by 2025.

“The global demand for fast acting and high bioavailable cannabis products has increased dramatically,” says Sunderstorm CEO Cameron Clarke in a press release. “To address this need, we are embarking on our international license for export, we are no longer limited by U.S. export restrictions and have the opportunity to become a dominant global cannabi brand, where we can improve the lives of millions of worldwide consumers with Kanha products powered by VESIsorb.”
