Oregon Trail: Boom Town

Dust off those boots and hitch the wagons, a new Oregon Trail adventure has just arrived on mobile platforms.

Free-to-play game publisher Tilting Point has teamed-up with Enixan and publisher HarperCollins Productions to launch Oregon Trail: Boom Town.

While the game features familiar storylines and locations, there are some slight departures from the original 1971 version.

There have been some technological advances since the 1970s, after all.

Firstly, the graphics are in full color instead of the Apple IIe green that many may remember.

Also, the game isn’t a survival adventure in the same fashion as the original title.

Tilting Point says the new game puts a twist on the classic Oregon Trail.

Set in Independence, Missouri, the game challenges players to grow the town into a thriving boom town.

Players can grow & harvest food, build, and craft to accomplish their goals.

But in the spirit of the original game, the new title features an adventure element.

As players build their town, they’ll meet and help supply visiting pioneers for their challenging westward journey.

Players can follow the pioneers’ progress as they head west and explore unknown territories during their travels.

Tilting Point Founder & CEO Kevin Segalla says they are excited about bringing the new game to the public.

“The Oregon Trail has entertained generations of fans,” says Segalla. “And we’re incredibly thrilled to partner with Enixan and HarperCollins Productions to bring a new twist to this classic game.”

While the original Oregon Trail was a single-player game, Boom Town adds online functionality for fun new options.

In addition to designing and building their towns, players can connect with each other through the new game.

Tilting Point says players can connect, compete, collaborate on special challenges, and participate in seasonal and weekly special events.

The company says the original Oregon Trail is the most widely-distributed educational franchise, having sold over 65 million copies.

“The Oregon Trail has captivated many millions of fans for decades,” says HarperCollins Productions Head Caroline Fraser. “We hope players are immediately hooked by this brand-new was to play a game they love.”

Oregon Trail: Boom Town is available on Android and iOS.
