Get your proton packs ready and dust off your ghost traps because a brand new Ghostbusters VR title is coming in 2023.

On Monday, Sony Pictures Entertainment finally revealed the title of its upcoming VR game, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord.

Sony originally announced the game at the Meta Quest Game Showcase in April 2022.

For the game’s development, Sony turned to Farnborough, UK-based nDreams, whose past titles include Fracked, Phantom: Covert Ops, and Far Cry: Dive Into Insanity.

According to Sony, the new Ghostbusters game is an extensive and engrossing game that players can tackle solo or with up to three friends in co-op mode.

“Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord pits you and your proton pack against the newest, biggest villain inside a totally immersive VR Ghostbusters universe,” says Sony Pictures Entertainment VR SVP Jake Zim. “We’re excited to give fans this first look.”

But don’t expect to step into the roles of Peter, Ray, Egon, or Winston or run around their New York firehouse.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord takes place in California with a new Ghostbuster team.

Set in San Francisco, the game pits players against an army of malevolent ghosts and their powerful master, the Ghost Lord.

According to Sony, the ghastly adventure will take players through familiar San Francisco locations like the Golden Gate Bridge.

Players can use classic Ghostbusters equipment in the game and customize their character’s look.

Sony says the game allows players to step into the role of a Ghostbuster with all the fun and frights that come with it.

“We love collaborating with the Sony Pictures Virtual Reality team,” says nDreams CDO Tomas Gillo. “To bring the world of Ghostbusters into VR through a new story that will delight Ghostbusters fans, both old and new.”

Sony has not revealed a release date, but Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will launch on PSVR2 and Meta Quest 2 platforms sometime next year.

Remember, don’t cross the streams.
