If you’ve ever wanted to fight in alongside your favorite Transformers in an epic battle for the universe, now’s your chance.

Today marks the launch for Transformers: Beyond Reality, a new PSVR title featuring a host of familiar Autobot and Decepticon characters.

Transformers: Beyond Reality is an on-rails first-person VR shooter that allows players to fight against Decepticons in a battle for the future of Cybertron and Earth.

In the game, players must help the Autobots stop Decepticons from using Synthetic Dark Energon to conquer Cybertron and destroy Earth in the process.

Featured characters include Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, and others.

Transform and Hold Off

The single-player game originally had a March 31, 2022 launch date, but developer Meta4 Interactive and publisher Hasbro delayed the release.

“You know how Starscream could always find a way to derail Megatron’s best-laid plans?” quizzed Meta4 in a tweet. “While it wasn’t him, the release of Transformers: Beyond Reality has been derailed by reasons beyond our control.”

The development team said they would use the extra time to improve the game.

According to the Transformers Wiki, the delay centered around a simultaneous launch on PSVR and SteamVR.

Allegedly, Meta4 and Hasbro dropped the SteamVR release as Sony wanted to keep the game a Playstation exclusive, at least at first.

Whether Transformers: Beyond Reality lands on other VR platforms in the future is unclear, but developers appear hopeful.

For now, PSVR-playing Transformer fans will be the only ones battling Decepticons in VR from the comfort of their homes.
