The Commonwealth will look and play a little better next year, as Fallout 4 will receive a free next-gen update.

Bethesda announced the update recently as part of its Fallout 25th Anniversary celebration.

While the game has proven itself as a strong installment in the franchise since its 2015 release, it has flaws.

Blazing a trail to the Institute with Liberty Prime in VR is exhilarating.

Undeniably, the intricacy and thoughtfulness of Bethesda’s storytelling shine in Fallout 4.

The post-apocalyptic action RPG game is like a choose-your-own-adventure book on steroids that take steroids.

But glaring gameplay and functionality issues can impede even the best writing and story design.

Fallout 4 has always suffered from both issues.

For many players, third-party mods are the only way to experience the well-developed-yet-glitch-rich story of Fallout 4.

But in 2023, Bethesda will release an official update that will clear up some issues and polish the game’s look.

Game updates include 4K quality features, bonus Creation Club content, bug fixes, and a high frame rate performance mode.

While the Windows PC game will receive the next-gen update, it is unclear whether the VR version will too.

The update will be free for Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S systems.

So far, Bethesda has not announced an official release date for the the game’s next-gen update in 2023.
