If you’re a fan of BMW vehicles and video games, 2023 will be your year.

On Tuesday, BMW Group and AirConsole announced a partnership to bring casual gaming to new BMW vehicles next year.

AirConsole, which BMW chose as a partner through the BMW Startup Garage program, is an existing gaming platform that will run inside vehicles.

BMW says the AirConsole platform is a perfect fit for the curved displays in its vehicles.

“With AirConsole we will leverage innovative technologies combined with a broad variety of fun and multiplayer games,” says BMW Group Connected Company Development Senior Vice President Stephan Durach. “This will make every waiting situation inside the vehicle, such as charging, an enjoyable moment.”

AirConsole features a library of more than 180 racing, sports, co-op, puzzle, and other games from platforms like Steam, Playstation, Xbox, and Switch.

BMW and AirConsole say all players need to do to start gaming is connect their smartphone, which functions as a controller, to the system with a QR code inside the vehicle.

Once players have connected to the system, they are ready to play some video games.

Players can download new games to the AirConsole system wirelessly.

“We are extremely proud to spearhead gaming inside vehicles with BMW and are excited to create new games for in-car entertainment,” says AirConsole parent company N-Dream CEO Anthony Cliquot. “Our ingenious architecture coupled with the ease of access of our platform will change the way people get entertained in their vehicles.”
