Lenovo has revealed its latest virtual reality (VR) headset, which it says it engineered for enterprise.

On Wednesday, Lenovo unveiled the ThinkReality VRX, featuring pancake optics and a full-color pass-through function for mixed reality applications.

Lenovo says there is a full suite of end-to-end services for the new headset to help businesses achieve goals and yield a return on their investment more quickly.

VR is a Valuable Tool for Business

The company says it designed the ThinkReality VRX as a VR solution for workers.

According to Lenovo, workforces are becoming nearly unconstrained by time and space due to new digital tools available in extended reality (XR) devices.

Lenovo says XR technologies are more-important than ever as they improve the efficiency of employee training, virtual collaboration, design expansion, and engineering tasks.

Regarding training applications, Lenovo says companies are experiencing impressive results with VR.

Lenovo says businesses are experiencing four-times-faster soft skill training with VR than classroom training, and a 275 percent confidence increase.

Additionally, Lenovo says VR training can reduce workplace injury risk by up to 43 percent.

Lenovo GM of XR and Metaverse Vishal Shah says customers are looking for reliable, flexible, and scalable gateways into the Enterprise Metaverse.

Lenovo says the ThinkReality VRX is a high-quality, versatile, and secure on-ramp to the Enterprise Metaverse.

“They need business-class solutions for the new realities of working in hybrid scenarios and virtual environments,” says Shah. “We engineered the Lenovo ThinkReality VRX to be the VR solution of choice for training and collaborating in immersive 3D.”

Advanced Technology

The ThinkReality VRX can operate as a standalone headset or tethered to a PC or workstation with a USB-C cable for streaming experiences.

The headset can also utilize cloud-based rendering like NVIDIA CloudXR for more graphics-intensive applications that require high-end GPU performance.

With the ability to deploy, configure, and manage XR devices at scale, Lenovo says customers can utilize updates and analytics to optimize worker performance through the ThinkReality platform.

The ThinkReality VRX boasts several design features that Lenovo says make it more comfortable for extended sessions.

The headset features a slim form factor and an optimized battery position for better balance, weight distribution, and comfort.

Four front-mounted cameras provide the ThinkReality VRX with six degrees of freedom, and the integrated Snapdragon XR platform enables enhanced performance.

Collaborative Development

Regarding further development of experiences for its new headset, Lenovo says companies can help innovate.

“No single organization will build the Metaverse, Lenovo is dedicated to collaborating with industry leaders to advance the growth and adoption of this emerging platform,” says Lenovo in a press release. “Enterprises can develop for the ThinkReality VRX by utilizing Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform and its OpenXR-based SDK.”

Lenovo is collaborating with the ENGAGE XR virtual communications platform and others for training, collaboration, and building a company presence in the Metaverse.

Lenovo says its space within ENGAGE will remain active, functioning as a virtual home for showcasing products and services and meeting and collaborating with partners and customers.

According to Lenovo, the ThinkReality VRX will be available for early access to select partners by the end of 2022.

The headset will have general availability in select markets worldwide in early 2023.

Lenovo says it will reveal the headset’s price once it becomes available.
