So, Happy 420.
I know I’m putting this up very late today, but I’ve been busy doing in-person 4/20 coverage, keeping the CannaGeek joint rolling.
I spent half the day with a camera and the other half with editing software, and I still celebrated the holiday.
Some people wait all year for April 20, though I believe that number may have diminished with legalization and re-normalization.
For various reasons, I enjoy the 4/20 holiday every day of the year and have done so for quite some time.
There are a lot of us out there.
But I still celebrate with everyone else when April rolls around, and I always look forward to the changes each year.
New products, innovations, and policy improvements always make for a better holiday.
But 4/20 has changed from what it used to be in areas where legalization has taken effect.
New Year, New 420
When I first began celebrating the holiday, cannabis wasn’t legal yet, and taking the day off work was always suspicious.
I hope everyone’s jobs are safe tomorrow.
Legal state or not, not everyone is understanding.
But again, that’s changing.
Thankfully, in 2023, 4/20 is a significant part of what I do for work.
And thanks to legalization, many other people now work in the cannabis industry too.
I watched a group of them hustle at Urban Leaf Vista today, assisting the non-stop flow of customers.
Along with many others countrywide, the shop was prepped, staffed, and stocked for the holiday crowd.
They were giving some pretty nice discounts too.
I don’t know about you, but my old hookups never gave holiday deals on greenery.
They just gave bulk discounts, like every other day.
But that’s how it still is in many places.
There’s Still Work to Do
Because even amid widespread cannabis legalization, it hasn’t spread everywhere yet.
Medicinal-use cannabis is legal in over half of the U.S., and adult-use is slowly catching up.
But the work isn’t done.
There have been setbacks and challenges in getting to where we are.
And those challenges aren’t likely to end soon, but things are improving as more states enact responsible legislation.
Never give up hope.
