Arachnophobes beware, or rejoice, because an over-the-top spider-slaying adventure is coming to VR headsets everywhere next month.
Yesterday, publisher tinyBuild and Developer Casey Donnellan Games announced their April 13 release date for Kill it With Fire VR.
The game is a VR port of the original non-VR version released in 2020.
The developer’s VR port of the game was in response to a comment on the game’s Steam discussion page.
The game’s title plays off the infamous kill it with fire meme, which conveys how many people feel about spiders.
Kill it With Fire VR places the player in a neighborhood that an eight-legged swarm of little invaders has overtaken.
Of course, your only way out of the situation is through it and burn it all down in the process.
It’s like Kingdom of the Spiders.
But without William Shatner, a Rifftrax commentary, or backlash from animal rights activists.
Developer Casey Donnellan says VR’s immersion makes spider-hunting a virtually-realistic experience.
“With the immersive power of VR, fans can finally experience the thrill of hunting down pesky spiders in a way that feels almost lifelike,” says Donnellan. “Get ready to feel the rush of adrenaline as you blast your way through levels, taking down every eight-legged foe in your path.”
Using a tracker, players hunt down eight spider species, dispatching them with an arsenal that includes shurikens and (of course) flamethrowers.
The game combines action and puzzle-solving in a procedurally-generated environment that makes each playthrough a familiar yet unique experience.
The game’s developers say the somber soundtrack and distressing sound effects help create a thrilling and entertaining experience for players.
Kill it with Fire VR will be available on SteamVR, Quest 2, PSVR1, and PSVR2 platforms on April 13.
