A Southern California hemp extract-focused consumer wellness company has something new to support stress relief and relaxation.

San Diego-based CV Sciences recently announced the launch of its +PlusCBD Reserve Collection Softgels.

CV Sciences says the softgels, which it makes with natural ingredients, provide a full spectrum of cannabinoids that foster feelings of calm and relief when consumers require intense support.

With a 10:1 ratio of cannabidiol (CBD) to delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CV Sciences says the softgels offer manageable microdoses that are perfect for consumers of all backgrounds and needs.

“With the continued success of the Reserve Collection, an easy-to-take softgel is the perfect next addition to provide consumers with an even broader range of form factors,” says CV Sciences CEO Joseph Dowling. “CV Sciences consistently aims to offer consumers the highest-quality, most-innovative ways to incorporate CBD and THC into their daily lives, actively targeting common issues like anxiety, depression, and stress. Our team is proud to introduce +PlusCBD Reserve Collection Softgels: another thoughtfully-formulated product to help consumers improve their quality of life.”

Like many people, I live with some minor, and occasionally not-so-minor, physical discomfort in one form or another.

Some of my aches and pains come from activities like working in the yard or even holding Touch Controllers for too long, which can cause stiffness in my knuckles.

I also have joint stiffness from playing music most of my life and my years as a diamond grader.

But I have found some relief in CV Sciences’ new softgels.

Pain Relief Potential

I recently received a sample bottle of the PlusCBD Reserve Collection Softgels and started incorporating them into my daily vitamin and supplement regimen.

Since taking the softgels, I’ve experienced a few different effects, including stress reduction and diminished aches and pains.

CV Science President of Business Development Stuart Tomc says the softgels can help support occasional pain and discomfort through the entourage effect of their 10:1 THC to CBD ratio.

Tomc says the virgin olive oil carrier has the highest cannabinoid concentrations in systemic circulation compared to medium-chain triglyceride oils, like vegetable or coconut, and naturally enhances cannabinoid bioavailability.

The new softgel formulation also includes fatty acids, vitamin E, and small amounts of minor cannabinoids.

“Unlike traditional CBD products, Reserve Collection formulas allow the user to ‘micro-dose’ THC with CBD ratios that deliver relief without impairment,” says Tomc. “CBD is a natural buffer for THC. When formulated correctly, this combo offers effective relief without leading to intoxication. Research shows that as little as 2 mg of THC can help with physical discomfort and anxiety without impairing ability.”

Proper Ratios are Important

Tomc says current evidence supports THC’s value in suppressing anxiety and aversive memory expression without significant adverse effects when taken in low doses or with CBD.

In one study, up to 7.5 mg of THC mildly improved mood and well-being, but 12.5 mg induced anxiety.

A serving of two of CV Sciences’ new softgels delivers 25 mg of CBD and 2.5 mg of THC.

Tomc says the study demonstrates why a proper THC dose is critical.

According to Bernhard Beitzke and David W. Pate, the safety data needed to establish a market for low-dose THC food products exists.

Beitzke and Pate’s review indicates that the allowable amount of THC in food can increase considerably, based on currently-available safety data.

Tomc says the increase would establish a clear lane for consumers to safely and effectively use hemp-derived, low-dose THC products.

According to a group at Tel Aviv University, one ultra-low Delta-9 THC dose protects the brain from inflammation which can cause cognitive problems.

Cannabinoids and Gut Health

Like many people, I experience occasional digestion issues, depending on various factors.

Since I began taking the new softgels, I’ve noticed some positive effects.

Tomc says CV Sciences routinely hears from consumers who use its products for occasional pain, anxiety, and discomfort relief but experience improvements to their digestive system as well.

The digestive health improvements stem from the interplay of the microbiome-gut-brain axis and how cannabinoids affect microflora balance, says Tomc.

“Optimal gut health without pain and with maintenance of appropriate body weight requires a complex co-action between diet, gut bacteria, and endocannabinoid balance,” says Tomc. “THC alone is poorly tolerated, so standardized formulas like our Reserve Collection that contain CBD and THC at 10:1 and 20:1 ratios are preferable.”

Tomc says consumers may want to consider the new Relief softgel formula that combines cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) with palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) for more digestive system support.

Low THC Equals No High

Even though CV Sciences’ new softgels contain THC, consumers shouldn’t expect any psychoactive effects when properly using them.

Because each softgel contains 1.25 mg of THC and 12.5 mg of CBD, Tomc says the formulation is well below the intoxication threshold.

A daily two-softgel regimen only delivers 2.5 mg of THC, which Tomc says is the lowest observable adverse effect level (LOAEL).

Tomc says the 10:1 ratio in the new softgels is ideal for supporting health and wellness rather than psychoactive effects.

CV Sciences determined the proper THC:CBD ratio by reviewing the current body of relevant evidence and original in-house toxicology work on +PlusCBD.

Tomc says the data showed that products with 10:1 and 20:1 ratios of CBD:THC are safe, effective, and compliant with the 2018 Farm Bill.

“We also make sure that every bottle of our Reserve Collection softgels is filled with healing and nurturing love,” says Tomc. “Wish we were allowed to list that on the supplement facts panel.”
