The longstanding Golden Joystick Awards will air its 40th annual ceremony this week on Tuesday, November 22.
The yearly event began in 1983 as an award show in the United Kingdom for the best video games of the year.
Originally, only the U.K. general public voted on games, but now anyone may vote worldwide.
The event is the second-oldest video game awards after the now-defunct Electronic Games’ Arcade Awards, which began in 1981.
This year, the GJA show will air on Twitch (noon, PST), YouTube (3:00 p.m., GMT), and GamesRadar (8:00 p.m., GMT)
Actors Laura Bailey and Troy Baker of The Last of Us will host this year’s show.
“So excited to be back hosting the glittering Golden Joystick Awards this year with one of my best buds, Troy Baker,” says Bailey. “The awards recognize over 20 incredible games and creators who have thrilled and entertained us this year, voted for by you.”
GJA says people cast over 3 million votes for games in 18 categories like Best Storytelling and Best Audio.
This year’s show includes the new Best Early Access Launch and Best Game Trailer categories.
GJA says a panel of journalists selected three additional Critic’s Choice categories: Best Studio, Most Wanted, and the Breakthrough Award.
The GJA show will feature exclusive trailers for upcoming games, surprise announcements, and special guests.
GJA will also air a special video to celebrate its 40th year.
“The GJAs recognize the creators and performers who have made this year yet another stellar year in gaming,” says Baker. “From indie devs to AAAs, we will be awarding them all on November 22.”
