Sony has officially launched itself into the next generation of VR hardware with today’s release of the PSVR2 headset.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) says the new headset has high-fidelity visuals, new sensory features, and enhanced tracking.
The company built the PSVR2 on key Playstation 5 (PS5) innovations, launching a new generation of VR experiences.

The PSVR2 features 4k visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye), 110° FOV, and 90Hz/120Hz refresh rates on its OLED display.
SIE says the new headset utilizes the PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech for a new level of player immersion.
The headset also features eye tracking, opening the door to a vast new world of gameplay possibilities.
For control, the PSVR2 has new Sense controllers featuring haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Adaptive triggers allow for new in-game sensory experiences, like feeling the tension of a bowstring or gun trigger.
The new Sense controllers can also detect approximate finger locations, enabling natural gesture detection during gameplay.
Haptic feedback has been a VR controller feature for years, but now Sony has added it to the PSVR2 headset.
SIE says the headset’s single motor adds an intelligent tactile element to further immerse players in games.
With a lens adjustment dial, players can select their proper Interpupillary Distance (IPD) setting on the headset.
The headset also has an integrated vent to keep air flowing during gameplay.
SIE President Jim Ryan says he can’t wait for players worldwide to experience PSVR2.

The PSVR2’s simple setup process only involves connecting a single cable from the headset to the PS5.
More than 100 titles are currently in development for the PSVR2 from PlayStation Studios and third-party developers.
Titles include Gran Turismo 7, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, and Zombieland: Headshot Fever Reloaded.
Sony says the PSVR2 game portfolio shows support strength from leading game developers committed to creating exceptional experiences.
The recommended retail price for the PSVR2 headset is $549.99 (€599.99, £529.99, ¥74,980).
